CARTIER
Cartier Watches, founded by Louis-Francois Cartier in Paris in 1847, specializes in crafting exquisite jewelry, accessories, and timepieces. Over the years, Cartier has become the official purveyor to numerous kings and rulers worldwide. In 1900, an aviator friend of Cartier, Alberto Santos Dumont, voiced the difficulty of reading time from a pocket watch while flying, which led to the creation of the “Santos” edition watch – the first-ever men’s wristwatch. This prompted the establishment of the Cartier Watch company shortly after.
By 1907, Cartier had expanded its reach with branches in New York, London, and St. Petersburg, solidifying its status as an international watch company. In 1917, Cartier created their famous Tank line, inspired by the Renault tanks observed during WWI. The Tank collection’s lines and proportions represent those of actual tanks, with color and decorations resembling those of real tanks. The crown of many of their watches, particularly the Tank-style watches, is adorned with a striking blue sapphire cabochon. Today, Cartier offers over 30 different types of Tank watches in both quartz and automatic, with the Tank Francaise watch being one of the most sought-after models available in both men’s and ladies’ sizes.
